I have kept the atmosphere warm, and cozy with seats close to the altar. The sanctuary seats nearly 50 in a semi-circle around the altar so that no one is more than 3 or 4 seats away from the front. There are also chesterfields at the back giving it a homey feeling. Volunteers who understand the problems of the Downtown Eastside help serve the people. Candles are lit in the serving area, and the broken hearted are made our special dinner guests.
MEALS:
A meal of hotdog's, coleslaw and juice is served at the end of every service, and special dinners are served on Holidays.
PRAYER AND COUNSELING:
After each services an altar call is given. There is a steady flow of people making a commitment for Christ.
As well, deliverance prayer is made for individuals struggling with addictions, and counseling and direction are given for getting into detox and recovery.
Often I assist people in finding homes, calling agencies, preparing for court, and reconnecting with friends and parents.
REVIVAL PRAYER:
In the summer of 2000 the LORD showed me to begin to pray for revival. I formed a prayer group and we began praying. Satan then came in like a flood and tried to destroy me and my ministry. After a few months of prayer the LORD gave me a vision of a huge outpouring in the mission like Niagara Falls. He spoke to me and asked me if this was what I wanted. My answer was of course, "Yes". In a following dream HE showed me line ups of people right to the end of the block coming for healing. We have continued to pray twice a week for revival since 2000. I feel that we shall soon see this great outpouring of God's Spirit, and the LORD shall be glorified in this dark, desperate corner of the world.
FUNDING:
For the first eight years since opening in 1992 I personally funded Living Waters Mission with my teaching salary not making any public funding appeals. As well, since retiring from teaching I have used my pension to operate the mission. Due to increases in the cost of supplies, and an increase in the numbers of people coming to the mission my financial situation has become quite urgent.
Now my pension funds only cover the cost of the rent and utility bills. Each month I have to proceed in faith that the funds for the food for the dinners, styrofoam plates,cups and utensils, van repair, fuel, and other expenses will come in . This situation has caused me a growing debt.
Any assistance you can give me in meeting this crucial financial need would be greatly appreciated.
